Harry F. Smail Jr. is a lifelong resident of Westmoreland County and practicing attorney in Greensburg, PA with his own firm, the Law Offices of Harry F. Smail, Jr., P.C. He opened his practice in 1998 after briefly working with Blum, Reiss & Plaitano, Attorneys at Law, in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania. In addition to covering areas such as Civil Litigation, Juvenile Law, Business Law, Personal Injury, Estate Planning and Employment Law, his practice is also deeply rooted in Family Law, including Divorce, Child Custody, Child Support, Visitation and Adoption cases, among others. Through strong persistence and self-motivation, Mr. Smail has seen his client base increase by more than fifty percent each year since his practice opened in 1998.
Mr. Smail received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in both Business Administration and Political Science – Pre-Law from Grove City College in 1988. While maintaining a full-time Officer’s position in the Westmoreland County Probation/Parole Office, he enrolled in the Evening Program at Duquesne University Law School. He attended classes five nights a week as a full-time law student, earning his Juris Doctorate in 1997.
While earning his J.D., Mr. Smail maintained a career as an Adult Probation and Parole Officer for Westmoreland County for over five years. His strong leadership ability and interpersonal communication skills provided great success in his endeavor to become a lawyer. Professional communication with judges, lawyers and persons from all society levels additionally provided a strong base for his practice.
Mr. Smail has extensive experience with all facets of processing the law, from supervising, tracking, prosecuting and releasing probationers and parolees to now defending and representing an expansive amount of court-appointed and private cases in a myriad of legal areas.
Mr. Smail’s professional affiliations are or have been with the Westmoreland, Allegheny and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, the American Bar Association, Pennsylvania and Westmoreland County Republican Committees, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, Pennsylvania Association on Probation, Parole and Correction, and American Inns of Court, among others.
In addition to his numerous professional affiliations, Mr. Smail strongly supports many local community organizations, such as the National Rifle Association, Rotary Clubs, Westmoreland Lodge 518 F. & A.M., the Federalist Society, Brotherhood of the Paternal Order of the Elks and Girl Scouts of Pennsylvania, and also serves as a Hempfield High School Moot Court Coach.
The son of the late Harry F. Smail, Sr. and Sally (Elliott) Smail of Greensburg, Mr. Smail is a dedicated family man, happily married to his wife, Rene, who is a Pediatric B.S.N. Nurse with Excela Health. He is also the proud father of two daughters, Alexa, 20, and Caileana, 3.
